Of late, we hear so much of AirAsia’s great expansion plans.  As Malaysians, we can’t help but to feel very proud about it because no other airlines in the world could match its fantastic business model and achievements without any help from the government – so we were told.

En Ahmad Jauhari Yahya (AJ), the Group CEO of MAS, announced yesterday that MAS chalked up RM1.17 bil losses for 2013!  In August 2013 AJ had told the nation that MAS will be on track to profitability by the end of 2014 as his Business Plans of 2011 was gaining traction, in HERE. With the losses of RM1.17 bil for 2013, it will be a miracle if MAS could turnaround as predicted by the end of 2014.

On 8-8-2011 the MAS-AirAsia share swap was inked by Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, the MD of Khazanah, and Tan Sri Tony Fernandes of AirAsia. The the Advisor of the said share swap was none other than Dato’ Seri Nazir Razak of CIMB.   On 6-9-2013 both MAS and AirAsia were fined RM10 million each for “collaborating to integrate some routes in which they had  earlier competed” under the said share swap.  Part 1 was about the inking of the said MAS -AirAsia share swap with the advice from Datuk Seri Nazir Razak / CIMB and Bain & Co, HERE and Part 2 was the chronology of events after the said share swap before the appointment of AJ as  Group CEO of MAS, HERE.

AirAsia A320 and AirAsia X A330 aircrafts are a regular sight in MAS Hangar 5 in  KLIA.  It seems that Hangar 5 has been reserved exclusively for AirAsia and AirAsia X at the expense of MAS.
